Why Study in UK?

The UK offers a world-renowned education system with qualifications that can make a real difference to your future. They also have a reputation for world-class research. UK higher education degrees and qualifications are recognized by employers and academics worldwide. High quality postgraduate study opportunities are also available at the majority of UK universities, with some universities offering sponsorship to extend Tier 4 visas.

Primary Education

Primary education begins in the UK at age 5 and continues until age 11, comprising key stages one and two under the UK educational system. Please visit the British Council page for more information on primary education.

Secondary Education

From age 11 to 16, students will enter secondary school for key stages three and four and to start their move towards taking the GCSE’s – learn more about secondary education in the UK and what it will involve. Primary and secondary education is mandatory in the UK; after age 16, education is optional.

Further Education

Once a student finishes secondary education they have the option to extend into further education to take their A-Levels, GNVQ’s, BTEC’s or other such qualifications. UK students planning to go to college or university must complete further education.

Higher Education

Probably the most important subject area on this site, this explains more about the higher education system in the UK and how it works for international students. Most international students will enter directly into the UK higher education system, after completing their home country’s equivalent to the UK’s “further education.”

The Cost of Studying in the UK

Tuition fees for UK undergraduate and graduate degrees generally range from $17,000 – $25,000 (depending on the exchange rate at the time of study). On average, students need between $1,300- $1,600 for living expenses per month of study (depending on if you decide to live inside or outside London).

Post-Study Work

The new post-study work visa rules will allow you to work in the UK after graduation.
From September 2020 any student enrolling at a UK university can stay in the UK after graduation for up to two years in order to look for work related to their degree or course. This applies to undergraduate (Bachelor), post-graduate (Master) and even PhD graduates.
The PSW visa is meant to give graduates more time to find a job after university; it does not affect how much you can work while you study.

Scholarships to Study in the UK

There are various financial support options available to help fund your studies in the UK. This includes scholarships, grants, bursaries, fellowships, financial awards and loans.
The GREAT Scholarships program is funded jointly by the UK Government’s Great Britain campaign and British Council, as part of the Study UK campaign. The program offers a total of 99 postgraduate scholarships from 36 UK universities, across a variety of subjects. Each scholarship is worth a minimum of £10,000, equivalent of one year’s tuition of a postgraduate (taught) degree. The scholarships cover academic year 2020/21.


Commonwealth Scholarship

The Commonwealth Scholarship scheme is aimed specifically at students from disadvantaged backgrounds across the Commonwealth. By funding postgraduate studies in a range of different study formats, it helps to support innovators and leaders of the future.

Chevening Scholarship

Funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and partner organizations, Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals with demonstrable leadership potential and strong academic backgrounds. The scholarship offers full financial support to study for any eligible master’s degree at any UK university whilst also gaining access to a wide range of exclusive academic, professional, and cultural experiences.
